Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen

Hatchet is a Newberry Honor winning story that focuses around the adventures and misfortunes of a boy named Brian.  While flying to see his dad in the Canadian Oil Fields, the pilot of the plane Brian is flying in has a heart attack.  Brian is forced to learn to survive in the wilderness.  He faces any dangers including hunger, animal attacks, and even a tornado.  With no other choice, Brian is forced to adapt and make the most of what he has to survive.

This story has been SUPER fun to read together!  Tomorrow we will continue into day 6 and analyze the internal and external conflict Brian experiences as his pilot has died and he is left to fly the plane by himself over the Canadian wilderness.
